June in Nagoya = rain + humidity

It's been raining a lot nowadays in Nagoya. The rainy season started from early June and will probably last all through-out this month till the end of July. I have also come to see why a lot of foreigners complain about the city's humidity. It's uncomfortable even for me even though certain places in Indonesia are a lot more humid at times.

As June is fast approaching to an end, I find myself counting the days towards my return to Indonesia. I'll be expecting a very busy July with all the preparations I have to get sorted out. It's going to be a weird moment for me to see all my friends returning home before me with only me and Andre left by the time the end of August arrives. I've grew close relationships with several people and it'll be very sad to part with them. Whilst on the other hand, I've been missing my loved ones back in Indonesia so much to the point it gets me use to homesickness. How will the last months of my stay in Japan turn out? Hopefully the best way it can.

Free time!

Personal: Pigging out
As it gets very lonely at times, you come to realize that more and more of you misses Indonesia and the very unique features that compile it's diverse culture. To cure this type of loneliness, I would spend time with my other Indonesian compatriots in a preferred relaxed environment where we would use to small talk and be nostalgic about the good old times. Whether it be drinking coffee, cooking at someone's place, hanging out downtown, or even a simple game of cards, in the end the venue doesn't really matter. The people you spend time with creating that all "Tanah Air' atmosphere is what's most important.

Sakura - part 2

As the wind breezes and blows my hair, I breath the warm air of spring that refreshes my thoughts... I take a quick glance at the flowery field of this beautiful creation and hopes that the short 1 week of this spectacular season lasts forever...

Sakura - part 1

One of the few things I had to see in Japan was the beauty of cherry blossoms. And that I have. I was hoping for spring to come so that I could see the Sakura trees, and that season finally arrived. After surviving through a cold and strenuous winter, the temperature gradually decreased as the warmth of spring lightens the frosty corners of Japan.

Short-term friend relationships

For the past 6 months now, I've met a lot of people and have established good although rather short relationships with many friends from around the world. I have also come to realize that one of the hard things about being an exchange student is the fact that you part with friends as fast as you make them.

1-day Trip to USJ

  • Mar. 21st, 2008 at 5:07 PM
Personal: Higashiyama Zoo
Finally, I had the chance to visit Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. It was a short trip, as explained by the title, but yet it was a satisfactory and full day of entertainment. I went with 5 other Indonesians via an express JR Bus that departed from Nagoya at 6.45 AM on the 18th. We woke up early and bought several Onigiri's on the way to the station for our lunch in USJ. The ride itself took approximately less then 4 hours. We arrived at around 11.00 and had to wait for 45 minutes to queue in line for an entrance ticket. Once we got in we started to take pictures and ran to the rides we wanted to go. The place was packed! One ride took 2 hours to queue up for. Nevertheless, standing in line for hours didn't take away our obsession to ride the Spider Man and Jurassic Park rides. The two are the most popular rides in USJ besides from a few others. All and all, queued in line for about 4 hours for rides that lasted 5 minutes each. LOL...

Dream #1

Personal: Tuala Power
I woke up this morning realizing that I just had a another weird dream. I've eventually come to find out that every time I sleep early (before 12 AM), I some how experience a weird and ludicrous sensation during my mentally challenged sleep. But this one was just so odd that I had to write about it. So my journals of unraveled and mysterious dream experiences start from now..

Long Week

  • Mar. 9th, 2008 at 6:39 PM
Personal: Good times

The last week have seemingly passed in a rather slow pace, which is something different to my usual holidays. Nothing much has happened. I hung around with a couple of close friends, went to a birthday party, and did a little karaoke. By the end of last week, I was sitting down in my room gravely disappointed by the fact the Madrid had been eliminated from the Champions League, the most prestigious regional league in Europe and arguably the world.

Good news is that I’ll be going to Osaka on the 18th. Yeah! I’m planning to stay for a day since there’s this relatively cheap 1-day package (10,000 Yen + admission to USJ). I actually considered going to Universal Studios Japan when it gets a little warmer, but because my friend is going to return to Indonesia by the end of this month, we decided to go during this vacation. One day is probably not enough to explore Osaka, so I’ll be definitely going there again sometime. Fortunately I have a lot of national holidays coming up next semester, so I’ll take advantage of those times to travel certain parts of Japan such as Tokyo. That’s one place I would like to stay at for at least a week. Oh wow… my stay here in Japan is nearly approaching an end. But so far, I feel rather accomplished because I’ve done several things I’ve targeted to do before I arrived here.

I just finished watching the movie, 300, an hour ago in my room with a couple of friends and enjoyed 2,5 hours of bulky men fighting their guts out to preserve peace over the very land that had come to make them be what the world knows them as, the almighty and renowned Spartans!

Madrid's year..!!

  • Feb. 13th, 2008 at 9:44 PM

Oh yeah, just one quick post. I forgot to mention, my fav soccer team in the whole world, REAL MADRID, recently won a fantastic 7-0 win in which Raul Gonzalez scored two magnificent strikes!!! They're opponents were the sorry Valladolid. Wow... Madrid is having such an incredible year and yet I'm here in Japan not watching a single match! You have to subscribe for cable tv to be able to watch European football so that hit me BAD when I got here. To think the team tours Japan every year, they would at least be broadcasted in national stations huh...?? Oh well... Luckily I got internet in my room. Keeps me updated.

Getting a part time job = Hard!

Man... I'm feeling a little pissed now. All the part time jobs I've applied for have been grabbed by other people. Why am I just a little too late...? Well, just to keep you posted, I've been trying to apply for part time jobs (japanese name = Arbaito) lately and haven't been lucky enough. The first one was a couple months back, the job was teaching English to kindergarten kids. I almost got the job, but turns out that this girl from the U.K. applied before me. While I was actually recommended by my friend, the previous person who left the post. The second one was to teach Indonesian to Japanese kids. The info was posted on the mailing list of PPI but since I was a day too late, somebody else applied for it. At the moment, I'm still waiting for a call from this person whose looking for an English tutor but I haven't heard news from that person in almost 2 weeks. So I'm pretty much not counting too much on it... Oh well... Wish me luck guys!

The Day of Snow Finally Came

A chilly February morning...

I woke up 2 days ago (Saturday, 8th) around 12 o'clock by a phone call from my friend Siti. She lives on the 7th floor of Ohmeikan, two floors above me. She informed me that its snowing and so I woke up and open the curtins and yeah... it was snowing! This time real snow, not like the other past weeks when despite snowing, lasted only a couple of minutes. The view was white everywhere. Like other Indonesians who never witness snow, I was all jolly and excited. So I got a quick shower and met up with my friends also from Indonesia and started our mini adventures in our first time enjoying snow. We took pictures, made snow men, played snow fights, and just enjoyed ourselves walking in the delight of milky-white snow falling from the sky... Hehe...

My visit to Hiroshima was very pleasant indeed.. More enjoyable as I expected it to be. I visited hiroshima with a friend of mine, andre, and decided to take a shinkansen there. the ticket was mighty pricey, but hey whilst i'm in japan i'd fancy myself to try out the world-renowned shinkansen. and yeah... it was fast! An original trip that would take 8-10 hours by original express way just took 2,5 hours... it was a breeze..

END OF YEAR - approaching fast!!

A day of cleaning my room has proven can make me feel better. I CAN'T LIVE IN A MESSY ROOM... and since I know no one's there to clean up the mess, i become in a way more independant in a positive way (is there ever a negative way of being independant?!)

Aaahhh... Winter break has just started and people are going here and there with high christmas spirits.. but yet I find myself having no plans for the new year's eve yet. There's a reall unbelievably beautiful botanical park called Nabana no Sato, particularly at night this time of year due to the magnificent illumination's... haaaa.... Btw, the digital camera is now officially weird now. it just turns off every time i wanna take a picture, so i guess a digicam will soon add my expenditure list. Oh well.... Japan is such a great to be for christmas and new year. Especially if you have your loved ones beside you... Oohhh....

Part time Job!!

TOday was a day of new experiences and lotsa interesting stuff. First, I was offered a 1-day job to be a sales staff for an international calling card and its promotions. The pay was pretty good i guess, 6,000 yen for probably 1,5 hours work. It wasn't hard work but something that really pissed me off happened. Arite, today was Idul Adha and my job was to promo a call card that gives people 20 minutes free telephone calls to Indonesia. Everything went fine. Me and 2 other indonesian were at work infront of the building were moslems prayed they're Id when suddenly this middle-eastern guy came out and started shouting asking who gave us permission. We had no clue since it was the responsibiity of our supervisor that came from tokyo just for today. Well anyways, the thing is that we didn't know anything whilst we were shouted at in front of public. But everything cleared after that though so all was fine, got my money and got free merchandise as well. can't complain!!!

Tons of bunns in mumma's place..

Sadly enough... spending my night in the computer lab getting some work done.. But in 2 weeks, i'm breaking this cycle of working 'n studying every (almost) night. Coz yipppeee yae yeee here comes winter breaks! Nothing much planned yet. But I really do wanna go to this one really nice botanical garden called Nabanano sato. I've been there before but during the day. Turns out from early december to the 30th, there will be some really nice illuminations at night. I saw the place on an add yesterday and wow! Breath taking... all you folks who wanna be some where romantic during new year's, then that's a place to be. But considering it is only 12 hours by plane from Indonesia, this issue might be a little bit troublesome...

Anywayz.... atleast I can look forward to watching the movies tonight. There's a new will smith action/horror film titled: I am Legend. Doesn't look like its gonna break the box office though, but a good will smith action film always makes my day. Particularly if there are certain horrifying hald-dead creatures such as Zombies to blow-up heads off! Yeah... it's gonna rock... (maybe be even your bed... at night.... say 1 o'clockish?? hiiii.... scary..... nahhh.... don't chicken out key guys!?)

alright... back to work.... Awesome!! :) ..... (not...)

Wow is getting chilly here in Nagoya. Particularly coz of the strong winds. Well anyway, big news is I just bought my Mac last week and yeah, i'm pretty satistied with my buy. It's a nice, little, portable gadget. So I can bring it around freely... Well anyway, Lotsa friends of mine already have plans for christmas and new year. But I"ll probably just stay here and chill... Anyways, I do have plans for next year tho! 3rd of January, heading to Hiroshima with a friend and stay a couple of days there. We're also thinking of stopping at Osaka, Kobe, and other cities on the way back...

Oh yeah, got some photo's of me posing when the leaves started to change colors in Higashiyama Zoo. I'll post it later on...

Ah... Japanese air everywhere. Cold weather 'n chilling winds, but atleast the leaves are turning red almost everywhere!! 2morrow I plan to go with PPI to Toyohashi, to go leaf watching (weird term used, huh?!) and will have to meet in Nagoya-Eki at 6.30!! Crazy.. I've never been outside during that time for a couple of weeks now, the last was on lebaran day. Hopefully the weather is fine. Ohyeah, i've uploaded more pics so check my Flickr.com guys!!!
